The Heavenly Trio and A History of God

I've somehow ended up with two books which seemingly address the same topic and try to answer the same question. Generally, we have two groups of people; those that believe in God and those that don't. I'm struggling to use the noun 'God' for the former group as it is not always the same being defined as God by different belief systems. This blog post will review what I think is the fundamental principle and cause of non atheists believing in different gods.

Both books, 'The Heavenly Trio' and 'A History of God' explore the views of previous generation Christians on who God is. It is a difficult quest to try and understand God I must admit. If a God who created everything, the source of life exists, who can define who God is? Is it even possible, for the created to know the creator? Do our minds have the capacity to fathom the great mysteries of what was before we came to being? I believe our approach to seeking answers for what was before we came to be is vital in our quest to understand and know who God is.

'A History of God' assumes that human beings have created the idea of a 'god' and we define this entity. God is who we say he is and thus is limited to our imagination. His power goes as far as humanity can dream of. 'The Heavenly Trio' presents a God who is seeking a relationship with humanity. God, who is almighty, reveals Himself throughout history and through His creation. Examples are given of men and women in times past who've easily entangled themselves in a web of philosophies and man-made ideas of who God is.

Ultimately, our understanding of an all powerful all knowing God is limited to only that which God reveals to us. The created cannot come to a full understanding of the Creator and I believe this is a thought we should be comfortable with. God has been defined by the actions of those that claim to be Christian however, a better approach to knowing God is to let Him reveal Himself for He is a 'rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.'
